2017 Reading in Review...

Last year when it was time for everyone to figure out what kind of goals and resolutions they wanted to set for themselves, I chose to really focus on my reading. Amongst other things like getting healthy and setting aside more time for myself to chill and relax, I really wanted to read more. And I did!

In 2016 I read a total of 61 Books. My goal for this year was to either match that number, or surpass it. I am thrilled to announce that I totally beat that number!! I read a total of 127 books in 2017!!!! Ok, ok... but before we get too excited about that number, here's a little breakdown:

Novels- 20
Children's Books- 31
Manga- 89
Plays- 5

So, yeah, when you look at the actual count it doesn't seem like much, haha. I didn't do a breakdown of my 2016 reading list I really should, though, but I'm sure it's going to be similar. Now, you may think that it's easy to read a ton of books when they're solely for children, or have a lot of pictures, but even so, I read them. Most of the Children's Books I read were apart of the Magic Tree House Series but I also continued exploring my dear How To Train Your Dragon universe. As for the novels, I thoroughly enjoyed discovering new authors and new stories, as well as rediscovering the magic from some of my old favorites. I got to complete a number of series I had never heard of, in the novels &&& manga collections, and finally had the chance to read some that I've just never been able to pick up. Let's just say, my library card has become my best friend.

Started the year off strong with the classic, Battle Royale, which I LOVED & ended with one of my current favorite series, and hard to find, Kingdom Keepers. It was definitely a great year for Manga! haha. This year, though, I hope to read a lot more Plays and Novels to balance that out. And, of course, complete most of the series I began last year.
Here's to another year of solving mysteries and traveling through imaginary worlds!

Shine Bright, Kaleido Star...

~*Friday, April 17th*~

As I've mentioned, this past Spring semester I took a Movement II class & it was absolutely amazing! I had been wanting to take this class since my first year at UNT and it was so worth the wait! We got to learn and do so many things that I never had done before- I'm going to miss it so much!

The circus day was really what I was looking forward to all semester! As many people know, I absolutely love Acrobatics, Circus Skills, Stunts, and everything in-bewteen. I couldn't wait to get to work on the silks!! (*w*)

1st Attempt at Inverting
This wonderful place is known as The Lone Star Circus (http://www.lonestarcircus.com), located here in the DFW area. The space is shared with a Gymnastics studio and they each have classes for children and adults. If ever given the opportunity, everyone should visit!

Starlet Mattie
We began the day with a Trampoline Warm-Up. With very little trampoline experience under my belt, after the few minutes we spent in various trampoline circuits, I was already exhausted..! After the trampoline we were allowed to play in the foam pit! It was a lot of fun, but once you went in, it was quite the struggle to swim out! I have videos from both the trampoline and the foam-pit, and when I get the chance, I would love to share them!
Strike a Pose!
Finally we began work on the silks. We were each separated to our own silks and then taught the basics of wrapping our hands, where to hold our arms, and being able to support ourselves. We worked on Inversions, various Poses, and how to Climb.
A Whole New World
Being inverted was surprisingly very comfortable and quite relaxing- easily my favorite. The different poses were fun to work and beautiful to watch; however, climbing was so not... I just could not do it! (>_<) With no abdominal or upper arm strength, I got no where, haha. But it was awesome to see some of the others reach the top!
Flawless David
After we had learned all that was necessary, our instructor let us go free! As long as we stayed on the circus half of the space, we could play with anything. Besides silks, there were trapeze, an aerial hoop and a  couple of tightropes. Of course, since this was a place for beginners to learn, everything was close to the ground for safety purposes, but it was still so much fun!!
Angelic Sahara
Needless to say, I was extremely sore throughout the next week! The pain was so worth it, though. Before the end of the year we visited one more time (post soon to come), and although I was still unable to climb very far, I had a blast! My new summer goal: make it to the top of the silk!! I absolutely can not wait till I can go back to play! (^-^)
I'm a Kaleido Star
I've always been in love with circus skills since I first watched Kaleido Star so many years ago. I've always dreamed of getting to do the things Sora did and to play on the trapeze and everything else, and finally I have! Just goes to show: if you work hard and never give up, Dreams Do Come True! <3

Upperclassmen Status...

I remember my Junior year of high school being my busiest school year ever. And it seems the legacy shall continue... It's my 3rd year in college and although it's only been 1month, I am already spreading myself waaaaay too thin and it is stressing me out!
This semester I am taking 18credits, and it's not too bad and I love every one of my classes! However, besides my schoolwork, I am also working my Herbalife business, helping NTXNutrition run Fit Camps, and just trying to work in a social life &&& SLEEP into my busy schedule!!
Let me give you a quick breakdown of my day-to-day existence: Monday- Fit Camp at 5:30till about 7:30, History from 11-11:50, lunch break, Japanese from 1-1:50, Stage Management from 2-4:50, then Fit Camp from 6:30 till about 8:30. Tuesday- Acting Realism from 9:30-11:50, Astronomy 12:30-1:50, and Crackin' Up Meetings from 6:30-8:30. Wednesdays follow Monday's pattern with the addition of Astronomy Labs from 3-5 (No Stg. Management) & Theatre in the Holocaust from 6-8:50 & no Evening Fit Camp. Thursdays follow Tuesday's pattern with the addition of Weigh-In Meetings at 2:30 & Yosakoi practice from 4-6 (No Meetings). Luckily, Fridays I have only Japanese and I've been able to spend the weekends either relaxing or catching up on homework/ studying! That is, unless I'm asked to spend time with friends or work, or I have to go watch a performance. I also have to make sure to fit in my meals & Flyers & homework & SLEEP... I've already had to miss classes (luckily my History and Astronomy classes don't take attendance) and I've slowly started to fall behind on assignments...
Thank goodness my first month of Fit Camp is complete! I'll now be able to sleep-in &&& get started on my homework earlier! Besides everything else, I decided to sign up for another Study Abroad, sooooo I'm going to have to pick up another job to raise enough money! And I've realized now that it wasn't such a good idea to audition for my friend's musical- good thing I'm just a chorus member, because I'm just going to have to tell her I can't participate! (>.<)
Now, however strange it sounds, I love being this busy! Sure, I don't have time for ANYTHING and I'm stressing every single day, but I honestly don't know what to do with myself if I don't have a million things running through my mind all day!! It's hard to pick a favorite class, they all have their pros and their cons:
History is, well, History! 'Nuf said! Buuut, it's the easiest class I have because everything is online and there are no deadlines! It's so easy & I'm learning so much!
Japanese is, of course, as annoyingly difficult as ever, but it's still Japanese! I absolutely love learning the language! I've also been trying to attend as many of the organization's meetings! I've even taken to Takeuchi-sensei's weekly lessons of Yosakoi dance- a fun combination of traditional and modern Japanese dance & a great workout!
Stage Management is one of the more intriguing classes I'm taking because 1) it pertains to my major, & 2) I think that I may be really good at it! I would love to get more practice in Stage Managing in my near future!
Acting Realism may be the most rewarding class I'm taking this semester. After all, it is a "gateway" class, meaning that once I pass it, I'll be able to take a bunch more major specific courses. Bob, my teacher, is a fantastic Theatre instructor with a million hilarious stories of working on & off the stage. He also has a talent for pulling out the best actor out of everyone! This, most of all, makes me both nervous and excited for what's in store for the rest of  the semester!
Astronomy is a subject that I have always had an interest for & I am so glad I'm finally getting to take it! I'm getting to learn so much that I didn't know before, and just the other day I got to visit the observatory and look at different constellations and, oh.... Everything about it was just beautiful!
Theatre in the Holocaust is one of the most fun classes I'm taking, surprisingly. First off, my favorite teacher is teaching it! And second, everyone in the class is hilariously amazing and opinionated! We get into a lot of great discussions and debates about various Holocaust topics! Also, every class is basically the same: read a play or short novel, reflect and discuss, then spend the rest of the time watching an amazingly written and directed movie about the Holocaust.
So, ya. However much trouble I've been getting myself into, I wouldn't even think of dropping even one of my classes! They're just too amazing! But I am willing to make a compromise: I'm wanting to stress a little less and do more things I did before school started like, reading for pleasure or working on my Poke'mon Princess Debut! I'm really hoping to find more time for relaxation during the rest of this semester!

Sincerely Yours,
Lisette Monique Diaz

Clownin' Around...

May 18th-25th:

I drove back to Denton the night of the 17th in preparation for the following day. May's Herbalife LDW was on the 18th, so I spent the whole day with my Team learning how to advance my business. And although after the program I felt inspired and all fired up and ready to get a move on, this summer just didn't seem to be one meant for my company's growth...

But Herbalife isn't what this post is about! The following week, I stayed with Kim and her family while I attended CLOWN SCHOOL!! Yes, I know that sounds strange. Like, are there really Clown Schools?? Well, I'm here to tell you that Clown School is real and may have been my favorite event this whole summer!!
Not only did I improve on my improvisational skills, but I had the chance to meet some of the most amazing people in the world! Most people think that Clowns are either scary, crazy, or just plain weird- but that is totally wrong! Ok, maybe Clowns are crazy and weird, but what I really learned is that Clowns are the epitome of losers! Again, weird, I know, but it's true! Clowns are meant to represent the "loser," the one person that's always getting messed with, but on the other hand, they're always happy! No matter what is thrown at them, the Clown stands smiling and proud! And above all else, it is the Clown's job to make others laugh.
Clown School was held at my University during the Maymester and although there were a handful of us Theatre students, most of the attendees were older and had already been working in the Clown world professionally. It was a bit intimidating to be working with these professionals, but at the same time very helpful. Everyone was so sweet and just wanted to help us succeed! Being partnered with some of the biggest characters made me want to step up my game every time!

The Clown School was taught by Tiffany Riley and Dick Monday, founders of the NY Goofs. They were amazing to work with and so fun to watch! Tiffany and Dick visit UNT every semester to teach a day of Movement class with Dr.Wilson, which is how they started the idea of doing a Clown School at UNT. They make astounding teachers: they're patient, insightful, understanding, and fun! They're also the kind of teachers that when they see you struggling, they help by giving a nudge rather than holding your hand or dropping you clean off the cliff (which was great since I hate either of the other extremes). As I said, they were a lot of fun to watch, and maybe it's because they've been partners for more than 15years, or maybe the fact that they're married and know each other very well, but I would love to one day see a professional performance of theirs!

Another great part of Clown School was getting to know these amazing people! In Movement class, I learned how wearing a mask helps open up a person, since they feel more protected; however, when you're wearing Clown makeup, there's nothing hiding you. Your Clown you is supposed to represent the real you. Getting to see my friends open up and how crazy they really are, and watching a person stand comfortable in their own skin is so great.

Throughout the week, we spent 8hours straight developing our Clown Characters through improvisations, movement, clowning, circus skills, classic routines, slapstick, and eccentric dance. And after the long hours of crazy clownin' around, we spent the final hour each day working on Clown Makeup. Sadly, I didn't do too well on this subject... I wish we could have had more time to develop our faces, but there is always next year!

Me & Ron (Gramps) at the Bookstore
One of the most amazing parts of this whole experience, was meeting everyone. Most of the Clown students were older men and women from different places in life- each with families and careers that have nothing to do with the Clown world. And yet, they love clowning so much, they make time outside of their busy schedules to attend classes or visit hospitals where they make kids happy. I loved having conversations with them all and realizing that their clown personalities were just a reflection of their real self- they were never hiding themselves and "embarrassed" seemed to be a foreign word. They really made me want to be able to open up myself to the world more. I know I already try everyday to be "the perfect me," but ever since Clown School, I've realized that I shouldn't be afraid of what people think of me.
My absolute favorite exercise Dick had us do was our walk. At the end of the week, after we'd all gotten to know each other a bit, each of us was told to simply walk in front of the class and stand there. Scan our fellow classmates and to take it in. After all, the number one fear of Americans is public talking- being judged by others- but it was a Clown's job, and an Actor's job to be able to withstand it. And so, each of us did our walk, and it was amazing to see how everyone reacted differently to being virtually naked in front of an audience. Some people had to be asked to repeat their walk, to open up more or to shed their layers more. There were also some who just walked in silence and got a nice stamp of approval from Dick. And, of course, there were those that cried out of nerves or fear, those were the hardest to watch.
As for me, well, I wish I could explain it better, but I really didn't feel anything. I wanna say that it was because I'm already naturally fearless when in front of people, and honestly do my best not to care what people think of me, but when I did my walk, I just... walked... I stood at the front and stared at everyone, pretty sure I was smiling. But when my eyes reached Dick's, who had this odd yet funny smile as he nodded approvingly, I just started to laugh. And although I tried to hold it in on my second scan of the room, when I heard my friend snickering as well, I couldn't hold it in anymore! I apologized for breaking, but Dick seemed extremely pleased! He said that he loved that I broke down in laughter, that it seemed that my "smile and nature had a powerful and calming effect" on everyone in the room. I didn't completely understand, but when I asked my teacher, he said he wasn't surprised. He said that he's known since he first met me in Freshmen seminar 2years previously that I was crazy and unafraid of audiences. Haha, I've never really thought that I was, but it was great to hear it from others!

Spit-Takes!!
Water Games!
More than anything, the day when we went outside for class was my absolute favorite!!!! We had all been hoping that we would be able to throw pies in our faces, and we did! Not only that, we learned water tricks used in clowning. From the different kinds of spit takes, to bucket throws! And finally, we got to throw pies at each other! Of course, before starting, we had to learn how to do everything safely, and properly, since we were working in partners and groups. We also learned a simple pie throwing skit. Overall, the messiest and best day ever!!

PIES IN THE FACE!!
This Stuff Got EVERYWHERE!
Having a Blast with Shaving Cream Pies!
After all the fun and games were complete, we had our final exam on Friday. But when in Clown School, nothing's as simple as taking a written exam or anything! Our Final exam was a grande performance for our friends and family! We had to be in complete Clown uniform and makeup, and everyone was assigned either a gag, skit, or slapstick that they felt they excelled at that week. We even got official certificates that claimed that we had graduated from Clown School!

Making New Friends!
And Bonding with the Old Ones!
Clownin' Around!
Making Memories!
The UNT Clown Crew!
Clown School Class of 2013 Graduates!!
It was one final hour of crazy and fun clowning, till everyone was supposed to leave for their separate lives. Except that no one wanted to leave this new reality! So, we decided to go for pizza instead!
Out of everyone that attended our final meal together, I was the only UNT student, but I loved listening to everyone's conversations about their real lives, and what they were doing in the Clown world back home. Michael, a sweet old man from New York told me that he loved watching me grow throughout the week and that he loved seeing how I reacted to everything, that it reminded him of a little kid! And then I was offered a possible clowning job! A couple that attended the class owned a troupe in the DFW area and claimed that they could never find people to play either an elf or a leprechaun when the season called for it, so they asked if I would be interested when the time came! And, of course I said, YES!! How exciting! To think my height would be the guaranteed factor in getting a job!

I can't believe that a few months ago I was hesitant on spending to attend something as crazy as "Clown School," but honestly, this may have been one of the greatest experiences of my life so far- at least for my acting career it is! I learned so much from the classes and the people. I didn't want to say goodbye to anyone, but I guess that's what Facebook is for, huh..? Besides learning how to open myself up without feeling embarrassed, I think the most important thing that I learned was that it's always ok to fail. Just as the Clown is the epitome of the "loser," it's ok to fall and stumble in everyday life, as long as you are able to get back up and smile after the fact!

I'm sorry for this being such a long post! Clown School was just one the best event of the summer, and I wanted to be sure to express how much it touched me to be able to be apart of something so amazing.

Sincerely Yours,
Lisette

Morph

HiHi!!
We FINALLY finished with the last
Stunts & Combat Short Film!

The Final Piece was Originally scheduled
to be recorded the same weekend of
"All the Right Words,"
However, we got rained out.
Originally, Javon, our Director,
wanted us to do a Power Ranger themed shoot.
Instead, we changed it to a
Video Game!!

Since we changed the movie,
we were able to shoot all of the fights
separately in a span of a month.

 Our Fighters:
Tiffany - The Classic Nerd
CJ - My Big Brother

Javon texted me:
"Dress Anyway that'll make you
look like a little girl."
Ended up in Pig-tails, hat, a T-Shirt, & a colorful skirt
for my "Tacky-Tomboy-Little-Girl"

~Easiest Director's Note EVER~

To Be Honest,
the more I got to work on making these films,
the more I realized how much I loved it!
I don't know....
I'm a Theatre Major,
but maybe I wouldn't mind working on other,
bigger projects????

All The Right Words

HiHi!!
We finally filmed the 2nd Stunts & Combat short film!

The film, "All the Right Words,"
is basically about a group of cheerleaders
beating up on a bunch of guys,
or as our director put it,
"Attack of the Cheerleaders!"

It was a long 8hour shoot
and a bit exhausting due to all the repetition,
but overall, it was a ton of fun!!

&, of course,
this post would be incomplete
if I didn't have a butt-load of
behind-the-scenes photos!!

It was an easy 10minutes in the make-up chair,
thank goodness our director, Justin,
is an actual coach at this gym!

Here's how the Eyeshadow looked!
It was super glittery
& I was nervous about how I was going to get it off!

&&& the Final Product!
Hair super high up, super intense cheer eyeshadow,
& a simple tank with our symbol,
Go, Wilson Koalas!!

 Finally getting to relax after
a few hours of shooting!

Cast Photos
Meet the Janices!
You don't know how HARD it was
to keep a straight face with all of their ridiculousness!!!
Sound Check
(^-^)
Recording in Process:
QUIET ON SET!!!
I've Always Wondered What it would be like
to be a Cheerleader
............
Never Again

Fight!!

HiHi!!
This semester I'm taking Movement III.
In this "Special Problems" class,
the Theatre and RTVF students are teaming together
to create short films for Stunts and Combat.
The first film to be recorded was "Fight":
based off the film, "Fight Club,"
all the actors were ready for this intensive performance!
Since I wasn't an actor for this film,
I was asked to help keep track of the audio and video files.
And although we were all freezing,
I think I was having more fun filming than the actors!
Then again,
I was one of the few people
allowed to wear a jacket!
It was great learning how a real shoot works!
With all the stunts and throws,
hundreds of takes were necessary,
as well as a mat or too.
I love how close-knit this group has become!!
Especially after bonding in this weather!
 Things were getting INTENSE!
 Movie Magic!!
This is the only one of our films
that has blood in it-
so cool!!

Here's a Preview I made for the Short Film:
